The Dark

What is about the darkness that inspires men to put words to paper, invoke fear in children and cause the imagination to run rampant?

I thought of these questions each time I walked the stairs.

As I performed an hourly equipment check, I glimpsed out the window at the dark and wondered.

I let the fear of walking around a desolate building, alone, as a woman, in the middle of the night unnerve and inspire me.

Why am I afraid of the Dark?

Why are you?

My First Time

My first time will be this Saturday.

Finally, with Covid seemingly at bay, the world has begun to open up and so has a quaint little coffee shop nestled in the hills of Hoover, Alabama. This is were I will get the opportunity to do my first in person Noir at the Bar along side some amazing authors and writers as Brian Panowich, Hank Early, Christopher Swann, and many more!

Inspiration

Sometimes it comes on a whisper or in the droplets of the morning dew. It lies behind the fog of a late rainy night.

I have even found it among the silence of the dead as I strolled along admiring the stillness and quiet that Thanatos has brought to many.

Or maybe you’ve seen it clasped between a cat’s paw or have seen it in the gaze of two lovers.

Or felt it between your thighs.

Has it come to you in the middle of the night shaking you from the stillness of Hypnos’ arms?

Did Morpheus bring you someone tall and handsome, a woman beautiful and virtuous?

Did he bring a nightmare from which a great tale of creatures and warriors were birth? Have you stood and conversed with Nyx; has she spoken to you too? Blessed you with imagination only the gems of a dark sky can bring?

Perhaps, at work when the boss isn’t around, and you sneak in a line or two in between the open reports blinking bright on your computer screen.

Have you ever truly found it? How has it come to you?
